Hemostatic agents and packing materials

Haemostatics are applications that promote accelerated clotting in order to stop blood flow. As with all treatments, it is critical to understand their roles, applications, and differences. A styptic (also spelled styptic) is a specific type of antihemorrhagic agent that works by contracting tissue to seal injured blood vessels. It is the first stage of wound healing. This involves coagulation, blood changing from a liquid to a gel. The primary treatment for all serious bleeds is direct pressure; all haemostatics are designed to be used with direct pressure at the site of the bleed – directly onto the bleeding artery, deep within the wound if necessary.
