Etchants & accessories. Etching of dental enamel with acid removes. The smear layer and opens enamel tubules. Etching of enamel and dentin surface prior to making: composite, sandwich composite, or “bonded” amalgam fillings. This makes it more versatile than some thicker gel etchants for etching all restorative surfaces. Published research proves that BISCO etchants produce higher bond strengths to (wet or dry) dentin1 and enamel.  These acidic materials remove the outermost layer of the tooth surface and expose a rough.  Though Ultra Etch etchant is viscous. SEM of the dentin surface after a 15-second application of Etch Rite™ shows the removal of smear later and opened dentinal tubules.
