Periodontal dressings

Periodontal dressings are a physical barrier that is placed on surgical sites to protect the healing tissues from the forces produced during mastication, thereby providing patient comfort. These dressing also provide some splinting of mobile teeth during healing. Periodontal dressings help prevent postsurgical bleeding by keeping the initial blood clot in place.

In some cases, the use of periodontal dressing is really beneficial. Other advantages include. In non-surgical procedures, the use of periodontal dressing can be helpful in aggressive periodontitis patients. However, despite all the aforementioned advantages, indications for the use of periodontal dressing are limited. The present study is a literature review to assess the clinical application of periodontal dressing. Two reviewers independently selected and assessed the studies. The aim of this review was to assess the effectiveness of periodontal dressings following non-surgical periodontal mechanical therapy.
